💌 How One Phone Call Started the Encourage Everybody™ Mailbox Movement
Six months ago, I picked up the phone with an idea on my heart and a whole lot of hope.
I called Laina, the store manager at our local Books-A-Million, and asked the kind of question that makes you feel equal parts brave and nervous:
“Would you ever let me place a white mailbox in your store — not for returns or packages, but for encouragement?”
I explained the vision: a simple, steel mailbox where anyone could take a card to be encouraged or leave a card to encourage someone else.
A little mailbox of hope, sitting quietly inside a busy bookstore — waiting to spark a smile, a tear, or a moment of connection.
Laina didn’t hesitate.
She said yes.
And just like that, the very first Encourage Everybody™ Mailbox was born — right there in the middle of the Books-A-Million café. ☕📬
Six Months Later: The OG Mailbox Is Thriving
Today, that original mailbox is still there — filled and refilled with handwritten notes of kindness, encouragement, and hope.
Shoppers stop by with coffee in hand to read, to write, to be reminded that good people still exist.
It’s become a little landmark — a hub of joy where words travel further than you’d ever imagine.
And it didn’t stop there.
Because one “yes” from a kind bookstore manager became ten more yeses across the country.
Now, Encourage Everybody™ Mailboxes live in schools, coffee shops, hospitals, thrift stores, and parks — each one carrying a story of hope.
